Tenacious D.

January 1, 1994 - Now

Tenacious D is an American satirical rock duo formed by musicians and actors Kyle Gass and Jack Black in Los Angeles, California in 1994. Their music fuses vulgar absurdist comedy with rock music in a style that critics have described as "mock rock".

Tenacious D's music showcases Black's theatrical vocal delivery and Gass' acoustic guitar playing abilities.[3] Their songs discuss the duo's purported musical and sexual prowess, as well as their friendship and cannabis usage. Their debut self-titled album features absurd and humorous sketches. Music critics have compared the storyteller-style lyrics of their songs to lyrics of rock opera.

The band first gained popularity in 1999 when they starred in the self-titled Tenacious D, a television series on US cable network HBO, in which Black and Gass attempted to establish themselves as the "Greatest Band on Earth". The series airs occasionally on Comedy Central and is available on their DVD, The Complete Masterworks. In addition, they have since recorded two albums, and starred in their own movie, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny.

Sexx Laws Video

October 25, 1999

"Sexx Laws" is a song by Beck, from the 1999 album Midnite Vultures. It was released as the lead single from the album in October 1999. Musically, the song is an unusual combination of brassy funk with bluegrass-styled banjo and pedal steel guitar on the choruses and instrumental break.

The music video was directed by Beck himself. Jack Black appears in the music video, which is partly a tribute to the film Mister Freedom. A pre-PUA Neil Strauss also appears in the video. The video is very surreal, at one point enlisting a spinning statue of a zebra with a banjo.

Shallow Hal

November 9, 2001

Shallow Hal is a 2001 romantic comedy film starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Jack Black and Jason Alexander. Hal Larson (Black), a superficial man and his equally-shallow friend Mauricio Wilson (Alexander) both share an interest in beautiful women, and try to act cool and hip when around them, but most women interpret their wild dance moves as obnoxious and want nothing to do with them. At work, Hal's co-workers accuse him of being shallow and caring about nothing but physical appearance, and ask him "when he's gonna get it." Hal wants to see women for their inner beauty, but his appreciation of physical beauty gets in the way. While going to work one day, by an unexpected twist of fate, Hal meets the famous American life coach Tony Robbins while stuck in an elevator, and has a talk with him about himself and Tony. Robbins, understanding Hal's situation, hypnotizes him into seeing people's inner beauty, not their external selves. Subsequently he falls in love with Rosemary (Paltrow), a woman who appears to him to look slender and beautiful due to her kind, generous nature, but is, in actuality, very obese. At first, she accuses him of being childish, because she thinks he's pretending to date her, but later realises his feelings for her are genuine.

School of Rock

October 3, 2003

School of Rock is a 2003 American comedy film from Paramount Pictures, starring Jack Black. The film was written specifically for Black by Mike White and directed by Richard Linklater. School of Rock features musical prodigies, aged between ten and fourteen, who play guitar, drums, and keyboard remarkably well, in addition to having real vocalists.

Dewey Finn (Jack Black), a flamboyant and hyperactive heavy metal/hard rock singer and guitarist, is kicked out of his band "No Vacancy" by the rest of the members for his arrogance and frequent stage antics, which had just caused them to be thrown out of the club they were performing at the previous night. His roommate Ned Schneebly (Mike White), a former rock musician who had left his past behind and became a substitute teacher, threatens Dewey with eviction under heavy pressure from Ned's overbearing girlfriend Patty (Sarah Silverman) unless Dewey "gets a real job" and pays his rent debt of $2,200. Ned suggests selling one of his guitars instead, but Dewey is disdainful of this idea ("Would you tell Picasso to sell one of his guitars?"). Dewey feels forced to give up his passion until he intercepts a phone call to Ned from the principal (Joan Cusack) of Horace Green Elementary, a highly prestigious prep school, asking Ned to fill in for a teacher who had been in an accident and would be out for several weeks. Dewey gets the idea to impersonate his roommate and take the job as a substitute teacher for the fifth-grade class.

Envy

Ben Stiller and Jack Black star as Tim and Nick, best friends, neighbors and co-workers, whose equal footing is suddenly tripped up when one of Nick's harebrained get-rich-quick schemes actually succeeds: Vapoorizer, a spray that literally makes dog poop, or any other kind for that matter, evaporate into thin air -- to where exactly is anyone's guess. Tim, who had scoffed at Nick's idea and passed on an opportunity to get in on the deal, can only watch as Nick's fortune -- and Tim's own envy -- grow to equally outrageous proportions. When the flames of jealousy are fanned by an oddball drifter (Walken) who imposes himself into the situation, Tim's life careens wildly out of control ... taking Nick's with it.
