Holloway was born in the California region that would later become known as Silicon Valley, and his family moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia when he was two. He has one sister and three brothers; he's the second boy. In addition to his immediate family, Josh has a large extended family that includes Baptist preacher Dr. Dale Holloway and author/WWII POW Carl Holloway. He also is the great-grandson of "Lula" Holloway who wrote a book sometime in the 20th century about the Holloway family. Holloway attended Free Home Elementary and Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia. He developed an interest for movies at a very young age. He studied at the University of Georgia but quit after only one year to become a male fashion model.

Holloway is best known for his role as James "Sawyer" Ford in the hit television series Lost. The show propelled Holloway to celebrity status, but left him with little time to leverage his fame with other roles.
Sawyer is portrayed as a conniving, overly sarcastic flirt who keeps stashes of washed ashore items. His flashbacks typically depict a more sensitive side to him.
Married Yessica Kumala

At the end of shooting "Lost" pilot in Oahu, Holloway proposed to his long time girlfriend, Yessica Kumala, who's from Jakarta, Indonesia. The couple married on October 1, 2004, shortly after "Lost" premiered with phenomenal ratings on ABC network. He's been quoted as calling his wife "The Love of My Life."
Robbed at Gunpoint
October 13, 2005
At around 4:30am on Wednesday, October 13th 2005, Holloway and his wife were robbed at gunpoint in their home in Oahu. The robber took cash and credit cards as well as stealing Holloway's Mercedes-Benz that was later dumped not far from his home in Hawaii Kai, which is about 12 miles east of Honolulu. They were shaken but unharmed. An arrest was later made in the robbery.

Doctor Benny

Holloway's ambition for acting led him to Los Angeles, where he landed a role in the comedy Doctor Benny. Ben Lewis (Timothy Dowling), groomed to be a doctor from childhood, spends his days inspecting the most intimate part of the female anatomy, but for some reason has no idea how to deal with women on any sort of social level. He's even gone so far to join a support group for adult virgin men, but this type of reinforcement still can't make him a hit with the ladies. When he seeks the help of a sex guru named Pheb (Josh Holloway), who actually teaches a private class to help inept men learn how to please the opposite sex, Ben's luck changes drastically. He begins to take advantage of his patients (with their consent) and quickly sheds the derisive slang labels of "lork" and "sooser." For all of his newly learned sexual prowess, Ben is still a good person at heart and when he's given a resident assistant named Becky (Jennifer Jostyn), the young man realizes that true love is more important than a string of sexual conquests.

Convicted felon Max Truemont (played by Josh Holloway) is hired to execute a kidnapping of the son of one of the richest women in the state. Along with his fiancée Roxanne (played by Sarah Wayne Callies), Max joins two other strangers who were also hired by the same absent mastermind behind the kidnapping. After the successful abduction of the eight-year-old boy, David (played by Blake Woodruff), the group await ransom instructions in a secluded hideout. However, as they begin to become suspicious of each other, Max realizes the boy is not as innocent as he seemed.
