Torch Song Trilogy

October 1, 1981

Torch Song Trilogy first opened at the uptown Richard Allen Center in October 1981 [3]. On January 15, 1982 it transferred to the Actors' Playhouse in Greenwich Village, where it ran for 117 performances [4]. The cast included Fierstein as Arnold, Joel Crothers as Ed, Paul Joynt as Alan, Matthew Broderick as David, and Estelle Getty as Mrs. Beckoff.

Max Dugan Returns

Max Dugan, the long lost father of Nora McPhee (Marsha Mason), drops in on her as various trials and tribulations have befallen her. With him he brings some promises and the news of his impending death. He also meets his grandson Michael (Matthew Broderick) for the first time who is charmed by Dugan. Donald Sutherland plays the police officer who helps Nora after her car is stolen and becomes her boyfriend in the process.

Brighton Beach Memoirs

After seven previews, the Broadway production, directed by Gene Saks, opened on March 27, 1983 at the Alvin Theatre (renamed after Simon three months later), where it ran for nearly two years before transferring to the 46th Street Theatre to complete its 1299-performance run. The opening night cast included Matthew Broderick, Elizabeth Franz, Peter Michael Goetz, Željko Ivanek, and Joyce Van Patten. Jon Cryer, Fisher Stevens, Robert Sean Leonard, and Jonathan Silverman successively played Eugene following Broderick's departure. Replacements in other roles included David Margulies, Anita Gillette, Dick Latessa, and Elizabeth Perkins.

The play opened on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre on March 28, 1985. The stage version starred Matthew Broderick as Jerome, William Sadler as Sgt. Merwin J. Toomey, and Penelope Ann Miller as Daisy Hannigan. The original production also featured Matt Mulhern as Joseph Wykowski, Barry Miller as Arnold Epstein, and Alan Ruck as Don Carney. The Producers

The original Broadway production of The Producers opened at the St. James Theatre on April 19, 2001 and ran for 2,502 performances, closing on April 22, 2007. The director and choreographer was Susan Stroman. The show originally starred Nathan Lane as Max Bialystock (who reprised that role during the show's first few months on London's West End) and Matthew Broderick as Leo Bloom. It won 12 Tony Awards, breaking the record held for 37 years by Hello, Dolly! which had won 10.
